Webmountain range is 95 km long and 20–25 km wide with a maximum relief of 3000 m, rising to its highest point at 3390 m above sea level (Figure 2). Little is known, however, about the tectonic and geomorphic development of the range. The Inyo Mountains are bounded along its east flank by an active, east-dipping normal fault system, the WebIntroduction. The United States Congress designated the Inyo Mountains Wilderness ( map) in 1994 and it now has a total of 199,208 acres. All of this wilderness is located in California and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service. The Inyo Mountains Wilderness is bordered by the Death Valley Wilderness to the east.
