Homeostatic theory of drug tolerance
Web1 jan. 2011 · Drug tolerance is a measurable endophenotype of addiction that can be easily generated and detected in animal models. The counteradaptive theory for drug dependence postulates that the homeostatic adaptations that produce drug tolerance become counteradaptive after drug clearance, resulting in symptoms of dependence. Web1 jan. 2011 · In the homeostatic and redundancy theory of tolerance and dependence, W. R. Martin (1968) proposed that tolerance and dependence are part of the same phenomena. He postulated that the neuroadaptive mechanisms that counteract an effect of the drug to produce drug tolerance persist even after the drug has been cleared. Web23 dec. 2024 · Solomon and Corbit’s model, based on a homeostatic theory of emotion regulation, would explain the effects of drug consumption: its tolerance, and withdrawal, as consequences of the dysregulation that drug intake provokes in an organism and its homeostatic reaction to it.
WebAbstract. Most theories of drug tolerance and dependence stress the physiological consequences of repeated pharmacological stimulation. There is considerable evidence, however, that the organism’s experience with the drug administration environment, as well as the drug, often importantly contributes to tolerance and dependence.
